Laser hair removal is an easy and well tolerated treatment that can remove unwanted hair on the legs, arms, under arms, face, back and bikini area. The laser delivers a beam of light which is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle. It then heats this hair follicle (but not the surrounding skin) inhibiting future hair growth. Hair removal works best in those with dark hair. Multiple treatments are needed because the hair is in different growth cycles. The hair that regrows is now finer, lighter and sparse. Treatment is performed until the hair is permanently removed.

Hair removal can improve the appearance of:

  • Unwanted hair
Ultrasound gel is applied to the skin to help glide the laser. The tip of the laser has a cooling device to make you comfortable. Generally well tolerated, some say if feels like a hot pinch. The heat delivered by the laser may be adjusted during your treatment to make you comfortable if too warm.
The skin may be a little red, swollen and tender following treatment.
Generally, 6 treatments are needed to debulk and then rid of the hair entirely. Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart. Some treated areas may regrow, but the hair will be sparse and finer. This may require follow up or maintenance treatments.
One study found a 70% reduction in hair growth after 3 treatments. Generally, 6 treatments are recommended. If not all treatments are needed, then left-over treatments can be banked to be used for maintenance.
Some redness and swelling may occur after treatment, this usually subsides within a day.
