CO2 Laser in Alamo, CA

CO2 laser resurfacing has been the gold standard in skin resurfacing since the 1990s, and the technology has been in clinical use since the 1960s. Its staying power comes down to results. No other nonsurgical treatment corrects texture, tone, and scarring as thoroughly in a single session. At SculptME Med Spa, we use a CO2 laser that delivers a partial beam of light to targeted areas of the skin, reaching the dermal layer to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

That deeper reach is what separates CO2 from lighter resurfacing options. It tightens skin, refines pores, softens fine lines, evens pigmentation, and visibly improves the appearance of scars and stretch marks. CO2 can treat most areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, and hands. It does require real downtime, roughly 1 to 2 weeks, which is the tradeoff for correction this significant. If you are willing to plan around a short recovery, CO2 delivers results that lighter treatments cannot match. SculptME Med Spa is the leading provider of CO2 laser resurfacing in Alamo, CA, serving Danville, Concord, Walnut Creek, San Ramon, and Contra Costa County. Why Skin Loses Its Texture and Tone

Skin texture and tone depend on collagen and elastin, two proteins that keep skin firm, smooth, and even. Production of both begins declining in your mid-twenties and drops steadily every year after. Sun exposure accelerates the process, breaking down existing collagen and disrupting the melanin production that keeps pigment even. The result is skin that looks duller, rougher, and less firm, with sun spots, enlarged pores, and scarring that sit in the dermis, well below what topical products can reach.

    CO2 Laser Before and Afters*

Results vary from patient to patient.*

Most people see improvement once healing is complete, with skin continuing to smooth and firm for about 3 months as new collagen forms. Most plans run 3 treatments spaced 1 to 3 months apart, then 1 to 2 sessions a year for maintenance.

    CO2 Laser Treatment Areas

CO2 laser resurfacing can treat most areas of the body where sun damage, scarring, or texture concerns appear, including:

Face: Fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and uneven tone across the full face
Neck: Crepey texture and horizontal lines, where thinner skin tends to show age first
Chest: Sun damage and crepiness on the décolletage, one of the most exposed areas of the body
Hands: Age spots and the thin, crepey texture that develops after years of sun exposure
Body: Stretch marks and scarring on the abdomen, thighs, and elsewhere

The CO2 laser is appropriate for skin types I through IV. We assess your skin type at your consultation and will recommend a different treatment if CO2 is not the right fit.

     CO2 Laser Pre-Treatment Care

    • Stop exfoliating the skin 1 week prior to treatment.
    • Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment.
    • Avoid using anti-inflammatory medications (ie: ibuprofen, aspirin) for 1 week prior to the procedure.
    • If you have a history of labial herpes (cold sores) and are being treated around the mouth, we recommend starting Valacyclovir 24 hours before treatment and continuing until completion (14 days) to prevent reactivation of the virus.
    • Avoid all lasers for 12 months after completion of Accutane.
    • Avoid retinoids and glycolic acid 1 week before treatment.
    • Do not use medications that cause sensitivity to light such as Doxycycline, Minocycline, Tetracycline 1 week before treatment.
    • Avoid fish oil, ginkgo biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E, or any other supplements/herbals 1 week before treatment as it may lead to increased bleeding or bruising.
    • Depending on your skin type or if you suffer from pigmentation issues, a skin bleaching agent may be prescribed to prep the skin before treatment. This reduces the risk of PIH or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation following treatment.
    • Use a minimum of 30 SPF daily.
    • Avoid direct exposure to the sunlight as well as self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment.

    CO2 Laser Post-Treatment Care

    • Downtime is about 1-2 weeks, avoid special events to allow sufficient time for the skin to fully heal.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and saunas until fully healed.
    • Avoid retinoids, glycolic acid, vitamin C, hydroquinone for 2 weeks after treatment.
    • Tylenol is ok for pain.
Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications (ie: ibuprofen, aspirin) for 48 hours after treatment.
    • Benadryl after treatment may help reduce itching and swelling.
    • Use Vaseline for the first 3-5 days post-treatment. Moisturizer can be used twice daily after healing is complete and skin is smooth.
    • We highly recommend post-procedure care with Alastin Skincare Regenerating Skin Nectar.
    • It immediately soothes the skin and really helps reduce post-procedure redness and discomfort. Also works with your treatment to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
    • Make sure to keep the skin hydrated at all times and drink plenty of water.
    • A gentle cleanser is ok to use. We recommend Alastin Gentle Cleanser and carry it in the office.
    • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
    • Have cold compresses or a hand-held fan on hand at home to help soothe the skin. Avoid ice.
    • Sleep with your head elevated, this will help reduce swelling.
    • Mineral-based makeup can be applied around day 4-7 or until the skin has completely healed.
    • Avoid exfoliating treated areas for 4 weeks after treatment and completion of healing.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks, if going outside, make sure to wear a hat and use a minimum SPF 30 daily.

Renew Your Skin with CO2 Laser Resurfacing in Alamo, CA

Smoother texture, more even tone, and skin that appears brighter and firmer than it has in years. CO2 laser resurfacing works deep in the dermal layer, which is why it has remained the gold standard in skin resurfacing for three decades.

Our laser specialists assess your skin type, your history, and your goals before recommending a plan, because settings and technique are what separate an excellent CO2 result from an average one. We will walk you through what recovery looks like and what your skin can realistically achieve, so you know exactly what you are committing to before your first session.

    CO2 Laser FAQs

A topical numbing cream is applied to the face for about one hour before treatment. If you prefer, you can apply numbing cream before coming into the office. The length of treatment varies on the size of the area being treated, generally 20-40 minutes.

Recovery time is about 1-2 weeks.

After your treatment, the skin may feel like a sunburn and some areas may crust over and peel. The skin may look bronzed and feel like sandpaper. This is normal and expected during the healing process. Cold compresses can help soothe the skin. Some patients experience swelling, and in that case an oral steroid may be prescribed. As the skin continues to heal, it may itch.

It can take several weeks for the skin to fade from red to shades of pink and back to your natural skin pigmentation.

Generally, 3 treatments are needed separated by 1-3 months. After this, 1-2 treatments per year for maintenance is recommended.
Results can be seen as soon as healing is complete. The skin will continue to look better as collagen and elastin form, generally 3 months post treatment.

If the settings are too high, scarring and pigmentation issues may occur. This is why your consultation matters. Our laser specialists review your skin type and history before selecting settings. CO2 is appropriate for skin types I through IV.
